I also found the piece about 'delighted to serve you' (or whatever it was) a bit colonial and it grated with me. But as someone else said, it was a paid infomercial. As long as it does some good for Bali, I can hack it.
He probably did have a bintang & talk to the locals. Friends of mine who never left Club Med came back raving about the Balinese people - why should he be any different.
