OUr first wake up in Bali and I woke with a start thinking I had slept in and then remembered I was on holidays in Bali YAY what a way to wake up !! I got up at 7.30 (very early for one on holidays I think !!), the kids were up watchinh Tv and I convinced the almost 15 yr old to come for a walk with me ( amazing really !!) We just strolled up the beach road as far as Jln 66 and then back along the beach which was lovely.Saw quite a few people out and about on the beach, some doing yoga , some jogging and some still passed out from the celebrations of Independance Day the day before !!
After breakfast at the hotel which was prety ordinary (but luckily improved from then on !!) we hired Benny a driver from right out the front of the Puri Raja to take us shopping for fabric at Alta Moda.Well it took 3 stops before we found it as it is in Kuta Galleria. We had been to 2 other Gallerias before we found it but had managed to get a few goodies at Matahari in the process.
Alta Moda is a huge store with very helpful staff and has a lift with so many fabrics on offer its mind boggling. If you could sew I think it would be heaven !! My daughter wanted to have an unusual one piece bathers made so we found the exact fabric she needed and it cost $4 for a metre !!
A trip to Makro was next to stock up on supplies and we grabbed a DVD player for $42 Aus for the kids to use for the 10 days we are here.Back to the hotel about 2pm and gave Benny 250,000 for which he was very grateful. He's a lovely man, speaks pretty good english andn is a father of three girls. He is excellent with children !! We had our first tatse of Bread Talk and got Benny a snack too.I found it amazing to look at but felt that like lots of bought cakes they look better than what they taste !!
Had a quick swimm and then daughter and I walked up to Legian Snacks for a light lunch YUM and then found Rico who helped us find CLIMAX swimwear only to find they wouldnt make the bathers unless we had a sample !! Oh great and I've spent the whole $4 on fabric !! Dissappointing though.
We went to meet our friends staying at the Adhi Dharma hotel and after a quick chat we walked to Poppies 2 to have tea at TJ'S Mexican. We loved it but fussy kids didnt. Our final bill didnt have our kids deserts on it and our waiter pointed this out so we paid him the extra amount when he took the bill but then I resalised afterwards he took a long time sorting out our change and even though our change was correct I'm sure he might have kept the extra amount for himself ? Perhaps a little scam of his own ?? I usually tip direct to the actual waitperson now as I have heard that if you just include it with the bill the staff done often get it ? Maybe true ? After many years working in hospitality I knoe how much a tip can be appreciated but it did dissapoint me when I realised what he was doing. Can happen anywhere I know !!
Walked up to Legian St and taxi'd home to bed.
