My daughter and I just came back from a trip to Bali few weeks ago. It was our first time there. We were lucky to have a Balinese friend who drived us through the island. I think for your first time you should hire a driver and if you come back to Bali (because it's impossible not to fall in love with this island and the people over there) then maybe rent a car.
