- to take it as part of your luggage and that in itself is a problem and an expense. You will need to wrap the monitor well, preferably with a piece of pyywood packaging over the screen, packed out to ensure a good gap between the glass and the back of the plywood so that any accidental crushing or blows will not crack it. Your insurance will not cover any damage nor will the airline give you any insurance or assurance. On the contrary you will probably be asked to sign a form waiving any damages claim. The weight will probably ensure that you have to pay excess freight. When you get it to Bali you will need to buy some sort of a power filter as the power suppy over there is very variable and there is a real risk of fusion or regular 'brown outs' without a filter. You should also pack a multi power board for accessories such as printers so that you will only need to buy one adaptor to suit the Bali power outlets.
We have given up trying to take desk top computers to Bali and now sell those we are given at garage sales and use thw funds to buy second hand computers over there. For about Au$300 you can get a last gereration desk top machine loaded with local software and fitted with the correct plugs. You can also demand some ongoing service if your friends have problems with it after you leave. If you can get a laptop model to take you save a lot, even down to the need for a filter as the battery, even if it is virtually dead, serves as a filter. Secondhand laptops are also available in Bali if you search around a bit.
