We stayed at the padma in 2004 - beautiful hotel. The rooms are very nice - as you would expect in a hotel of that rating. Breakfast was to die for - the best we have ever had. The hotel being so big though was a bit impersonal for us. Drinks, snacks at the pool were very pricey for Bali standards. Friends stayed at the Mandira and they were quite happy - but the rooms were pretty basic compared to the Padma. WE have been going to bali for 17 years now and my preference is a slightly smaller hotel. Depends what you are used to.
