I am also married to a Balinese and if I went and did the shopping I always got ripped off. Often my husband had to go to the markets himself. I also found this when building our house. If they knew a white person lived there always higher. I also got ripped off at the Warungs. I was paying more than the locals. ONce you learn a few Indonesian words and phrases though, this also changes things. My children could also speak fluent Balinese, which is why they attended local school. You have lots to weigh up before the move. We nearly sold our house in Australia while living in Bali. The second Bali bombs went off and we decided not to. Business isn't booming right now. If it was five years ago we would have done it.
