but a couple we met at a pool bar in Bali last year, she was travelling on UK passport and he on Irish (they actually live in Perth) arrived at the airport in Perth to be advised that he couldn't travel because he didn't have a visa. They couldn't fly that day & he had to go to the Indonesian Embassy to get one which took 1 day I think. They ended up flying out 2 days later. So I think it would be worth a trip to the consulate for your boyfriend.
Anyway to clarify I think if your boyfriend is travelling on an Irish Passport he will need to obtain a Visa before leaving Hong Kong but you travelling on a UK passport can get VOA. Hope I've made sense.
