If you want to see more of the island, then I suggest you would spend less time travelling to and fro from Sanur, if you stay overnight elsewhere. The windy roads don't always make for fast driving and if you take 3 hours to get somewhere and then 3 hours back again, there is most of your day sitting on the scooter.
I have only stayed on the north east coast at a place called xxxxx xxxx xxxxxxx and it is absolutely lovely, right on the black sand beach and luxurious. I would travel around and stop at places that take your fancy, with the current low occupancy rates, this shouldn't be a problem.
