Interesting about aerosols being forbidden.
Everytime I fly domestic they have a sign up just asking to remove aerosols from hand luggage & put them in the trays before going through X-ray.
I also take 1 in checked luggage to Bali, no problems.
If you really must take it & you are travelling with AA then I'd just follow their rules and regulations.
