I've included Bali Ayu as part of package deal and also just turned up and negotiated. They've never asked me for my credit card details and neither has anyone else. If anyone ever did, I would tell them that I didn't have one and they could think what they like.
It's a very good budget hotel, but we've never seen it booked out and we've been there when the average occupancy rate of Balinese hotels has been much better than at present.
Naturally, they don't want to miss out on a booking, but I would just tell them what you want and what time to expect you and leave it at that. They'll be very happy to see you turn up. The std villa is worth the little extra over the std room. The breakfasts are basic, but we found them quite acceptable and their upstairs restaurant is very pleasant. We generally found the other guests to be friendly too, always company at breakfast if you want it.
Don't miss going to Warung Sobat, just a short taxi ride and billed as the "Best little restaurant in Bali". Don't know about that, but certainly pleasant and very reasonably priced, including for wine.
