Rabid Monkies

This may sound a little silly but my friends keep telling me horror stories about the monkies in bali... are they really rabid blood lusting primates who prey apon the unwary?? If i am bitten what is the best course of action?? I'm assuming amputation is the only real option but if bitten on the ass is it necessary to remove both cheeks??
