For the first time in 10 trips i had problems, addmittingly my bag was 27kgs (which is the heaviest i have personally ever tried to check in).
Usually i aim for about 25kg and havent had a problem, and i still think that you'd be ok with anywhere upto 25kg.
A single bag that is over 30kg are not allowed to be checked in, usually you will be asked to unpack some of it into another lighter bag.
As for your 'little tacker' if it is a full price ticket then they will be allowed 20kgs as well, if it is a cheaper ticket (child) then i would check, as i dont think they get the full baggage allowance as adults
