Has a travel insurance attached to the card if the travel was purchased on the card, however it does not cover insolvency. Which is unfortunate for your friend as most other bank Gold Mastercard/Visa Cards do cover insolvency. The only other option as others have mentioned is trying to get a chargeback on the card for goods purchased but not received. I think the best way is to go to a branch as it is easier to get things done when someone is standing in front of you and not as easy to be fobbed off, get the staff member to do the calling around to their card services. Get your friend to stand their ground, if they get the run around from staff send a letter to their regional office/manager. The main problem I think they will encounter now is the fact that so much time has elapsed and they probably have a time limit for trying to claim back.

Sorry for rambling but hope I have helped a little.
