You can fly to Lombok in 25 minutes from Bali.
By far the best way to is to fly at $30 approx as opposed to 4-5 hours by ferry plus the transfer times to ther harbour.

Lombok is much less developed than Bali & with fewer tourists. Many people compare Lombok now, with Bali in the 70s. Things are already startingmto change though as the new international airport has got the go ahead & will be completed by 2011. Meanwhile work on the infratsructure has already started. New roads are being built old roads are being widened, street lighting has recently been put in to Kuta ( yes there is a Kuta on Lombok too but it couldnt be more different to Kuta Bali)
Now is a great time to visit Lombok.
