- in Bali because it is irrigated in flooded paddies and does not rely directly on rainfall.
Farmers can get about 3 crops a year of the new strains of rice and as most ploughing and harvesting is now done mechanically by contractors you can see large areas in all stages of growth. Traditionally a farmer only planted an area small enough for his own family to manage.
