Which part of Bali do you recommend?

I would appreciate your suggestions as where to stay on Bali (which part) if we are looking for a nice beach, kind of quiet neighbourhood, nice snorkelling sites (but with some places to eat and do basic shopping). It would be our base for exploring the island. Thanks in advance!
