I'm little older than you and have been to Bali on my own mnay times. I use taxis for short trips and find that drivers are willing to wait while you shop, some will help with translations, barganing and carry your bags for you and are very respectful though there are cheeky ones too who just want to make you laugh.
Sammy and Susies is a good place to meet people, also Ketuts esky a little further towards Kuta is good fun.
Eating alone is not easy but I always felt comfotable at Garden View restraunt and made at home at the Indonational restraunt where Milton and Kerry will look after you and at the Foo Kin pub on Rum Jungle road. Hope you have a great time and enjoy the freedom of traveling on you own.
