Fishing and children

Hi - been trawling the archives about fishing and children. I see a lot about charters and these are going to be great for the older boys. I'm wondering what arrangements are about for an 8 year old and Dad.If there is a boat, his mum would insist on lifejackets suitable for a child. Her preference would be a jetty or a fish farm for the little fella. Any ideas?
