As I general practise you should always call and tell a credit card company you will be out of the country, where you will be for what dates and only allow charges for those dates. That narrows the window for fraud, the company is happy to do it and only takes a minute. Concurrant fraud will still have to be dealt with, but at least you have limited the expense. Carry cash.
