I've had my card "compromised" twice this year.

Second time, very careful, no Bali ATMs', a brand new card, it was only used (in Bali) at our establishment by our staff and at our BII bank by a well known staff senior for a cash advance.

It was though, used at a few places in Perth, one of them being a Duty Free at Perth Airport.

It's apparently a regular occurance to have cards scanned/skimmed or whatever in Australia etc. and not wanting to cast aspersions, but....
so it's not just Bali where the probs occur..

On my last trip back to Oz, I was browsing some business mag (only one available) and noticed an article on Credit Card and Identity fraud.

It's scary. a multi $$ billion business..
I now no longer have a credit card, decided it's not worth the risk
