We just got back from our 2nd trip to Bali and we always left our passports and extra money in the hotel safe. You will find that usually there's only one key for the safe deposit box, which you get. Otherwise they might need two keys to open the box, like where we stayed this year at the Bali Ayu. Definitley a good idea to photocopy them before you leave home though.
The only trouble I had last trip was losing some nice underwear through the hotel laundry, so if I have any suggestions there I'd say do your smalls yourself!
Also, I wouldn't recommend riding a motorbike around Bali but hiring a car is no problem, the traffic is fine as long as you are on the ball. Hiring a Kijang (Toyota 4WD) should cost you about 120,000 a day. Try a car hire place opposite Tubes in Poppies II. Just make sure you check insurance, check the vehicle and note any dents and don't fill up the car unless you intend having it for a week! Have a great holiday
