we travelled in September (family of 5) and used aussie dollars. Not a problem. I just gave them $200 AUD (2 x $100) and they gave me the change in rupiah. Don't give them anything smaller than $50 bills. Don't forget your 100,000 rupiah per person departure tax for your trip home!
