You paint a pretty nightmarish picture of what might happen to us if we go to Bali.

I don't really want to speculate on what the effect of economic collapse in a country with 230 million people might be, but if I stayed at home and watched it happen I don't think I could ever look in a mirror again.

The issues are much wider than the bombs themselves.

If we don't go to Indonesia, there's still plenty of other people and buildings to bombs. And what can they do? Leave Indonesia? Where would they go? Certainly not to Australia, with our immigration policies.

Terrorism is a global issue that we must all confront in whatever way we see as being suitable for us. For many people that involves barricading themselves in their homes. For others it means showing defiance, and that's all. Others will send financial support. Some will write letters. Some will go on marches. Some will actively hunt the terrorists. Some will try to undermine their support bases. Some will work to eliminate the conditions under which terrorist groups flourish. And so on and so on.

Nobody is crazy when they are doing what they think is right. They just sound crazy to people who think the path they're on is the only right one. And that's part of what started the trouble in the first place.
