Just as a matter of interest, I did some investigation on the words in the travel advisories issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia.
The travel advisory for Indonesia (including Bali) starts with the words:
This advice has been reviewed and reissued. It contains new information on safety and security. The overall level of the advice has not changed.
This sentence has been there since 2002, after the bomb. The level has not changed, not matter how many people shout out new travel warnings.
The warnings have said there are threats, there have been bombs and there is a possibility of further attacks.
This is one for Thailand:
Australians in Thailand are advised to exercise extreme caution. We continue to receive reports that terrorist elements in South East Asia are planning attacks against a range of targets, including places frequented by foreigners.
Fiji and New Zealand say the same thing:
Australians in Fiji are advised to maintain good personal security awareness. As you would in Australia, use common sense and be alert to suspicious activities.
Interestingly enough, you don't have to be aware of possible tourist attacks in the US, according to the travel advisories.
