My personal preference would be the Gilis, you will experience something quite different from the usual Kuta holiday, and very enjoyable. You have a range of accom choices from upmarket, middle, and basic.
Have a look at the Lombok Lovers website for more specific information on the Gilis. Give you an idea on which island would suit you for instance. Posting there will generally give you answers to specific questions too.
