Well said. Let's get real .... the rose coloured views and the idealistic comments about "helping" is peeving me off somewhat too .... what they really mean us "I want my cheap holiday". And if people want to take that risk then I say go for it and good luck to them.
But like you I think many here are only kidding themselves about thier motives to return despite the suitcases packed with goodies for the Balinese. Stay home and send your holiday money to a family if you really want to "help" them.
There is a post here that downplays the impact of the Rajas bomb - the building is still standing .... well that's b****y great don't you think. Tell that to those who may not have been badly injured but who can't sleep at night, and when they can wake up from nightmares in pool of sweat. I'm sure those who jump at the slightest sound from now will be greatly comforted by this knowlege that it wasn't that bad in Bali when they find maybe 2yrs (a typical time frame) down the track they start to suffer from depression .........I'm not even going to get to those who are mamed for life or lost a loved one.
I have often thought that this forum needs a rose tinted background and I share your sentiments Moosey ...... and I DON'T have PMT but I am a professional who knows all too well the long term impact that trauma can have on an individual.
