My family and I are booked to go in about 3 weeks, staying in Sanur and Tuban. I am not overly concerned about security issues, as we will change our approach to the holiday if needed, and stay away from what might be a 'soft' target. More interested to see how things are on the street ATM, is it very quiet, people all staying in resorts etc?? is a place like Sanur feeling any different, I would imagine the impact here might be minimal, or at least appear to be. I was interested to see one Aust network talk about a travel agency that has already contacted heaps of people offering refunds etc, but over 90% said they were still going, yet another network maintains travellers are leaving in droves. Shows how the media can put any spin on a story they like.
Would be great to hear from anyone there ATM of just back over the next few days to get an idea about the general feeling of the place. We went about 6 mths after the 2002 bombing, and whilst it was quiet, I am not sure that this one wil cause the same effect. I tend to think that people are now more aware that the world is now faced with these ugly situations, and we all have to make decisions about how to go on woth our lives as normal whilst minimising the risk. I just hope that there will still be decent numbers of tourists, which helps create an enjoyable atmosphere, and also helps keep restaurants turning over food.
I have my fingers crossed and still hope to be there in a few weeks.
