This is a point I've been struggling to make. I had to live with people coming to my house - friends of mine - saying that they had sold everything they could, or couldn't find buyers, and could they have Rp50,000 to buy food for the week.
Selfishly, I'm so glad I'm not living there any more because the feelings of shock and helplessness I experienced in 2002 have come rushing back and I don't think I could cope with it. However, given the opportunity I would return as a tourist and at a moment's notice!
