I know that sounds like a dumb question, but bear with me...
I'm about to go to live in Jakarta for a year or so.
Now, if I'm living in Jakarta as a resident, but a citizen of Australia, am I travelling? Or am I just living somewhere?
Should I get travel insurance to cover me for the whole time I am away, or just when I take a trip outside of Jakarta?
Some of the year-long policies I've attempted to read and translate into some form of human language seem to state that I will be covered for a year, but only up to (say) three months at a time. So that's no good if it's considered that I am travelling. And if I am travelling but staying in one place, who decides when I stop travelling? Like, would the three months start again if I go to Bali and back to Jakarta? And would I be covered for Bali but not Jakarta in that case?
On the other hand, if I'm supposed to go to Jakarta and get a domestic policy there, what happens if I break my leg on the way there?
Should I get travel insurance for the trip over, then get a domestic policy when I arrive?
And who thought up all this crap in the first place? I'm sure I'll be a lot happier in a couple of years when civilisation crumbles and we get a chance to start over and do things properly.
Sorry I couldn't answer your question Colleen. I hope you have a great trip. My cousin's a geneaologist too. He works in a Levi's factory.
