It sounds to me as though you are advocating honour among thieves.
I don't think that's a concept you really want to have associated with the country you live in.
Besides which, the AFP are a government authority and their job is to control the population so the elite can feel safe and get wealthier. They don't exist to mollycoddle petty drug smugglers. They are supposed to make examples of them so everybody else stays at home and behaves. As for "going after the big ones"... who do we know in Afghanistan with the means to get stuff into the country without having to clear it through customs?
There's no point trying to invoke nationalistic fervour to support the Bali 9, because Australians don't really support other Australians they don't know unless they can kick a footy or would look good naked on the hood of a Holden.
