I have stayed in Ubud several times, always at the Tjampuhan and have never been short of something to do. The Tjampuhan is a lovely traditional hotel with rooms and cottages built into the side of a scenic river gorge just 10 minutes interesting walk from Ubud main street. A great endless buffet breakfast eaten in a semi-open restaurant looking out over the gorge. Check the many websites for its history.
Ubud has many art galleries and museums and endless restaurants ranging from very cheap to more classy. An interesting market, a monkey forest, plenty of shops. Not much nightlife, but the Jazz Cafe is worth a look in. Cultural dance performances always available.
Great walks through the rice paddies. A short drive to the village of Tegallalang, famed for distinctive [but cheap] woodcarvings and lovely valley rice terraces on the way there.
All I know of Lombok is what others have told me, or what I have read on the Forum or on other websites. But obviously totally different to Ubud.
