QANTAS - xs luggage for charity

Was told today by QANTAS that they no longer authorise extra luggage allowance for charitable goods.

Has anyone had luck in getting some approved very recently, and if so, what was the trick ??

I'm going in October and was hoping to take some clothes and things with me to take to an orphanage or my sponsor child's school/village.
