That doesn't mean it can't also be greedy.
Qantas is moving another 20,000 odd jobs offshore in order to reduce costs because of high fuel prices.
That sounds fair, right? But when fuel prices drop again, will all the people laid off get their jobs back? Will the level of service raise again? Will the benefits of lower fuel prices be passed back to the consumer? Or will Qantas celebrate that they suddenly make more money?
Remember when all the banks laid off heaps of staff and closed a bunch of branches? And they all announced record profits. And everyone pays far more in fees than they used to.
And now we have high unemployment, more debt than ever, and the gap between rich and poor is greater than ever.
Yes, it's business. And it's bloody greedy.
