Candi Dasa is lovely.
So sleepy it makes Sanur look like a hot spot! We went there then Ubud then Sanur and Candi Dasa was our favourite spot. Limited shopping yes but you can get the basics in a number of shops on the main strip. We stayed at Puri Bagus, FANTASTIC hotel, if you have older children it would be suitable (not youbger as all rooms are detatched. You will definately get a feel of the REAL Bali (which you wont get in Sanur)
You have beach but its nothing to exciting (but nor is Sanurs) and there is so much nearby to see and do aswell as snorkling (or diving), LOVE it there.
Sanur is VERY touristy in my opinion. Nice if you want that but in Candi Dasa, we had everything we needed and only saw 1 or 2 tourists every day rather than 1 or 2 Balinese!!!
