of a statement that really stopped me in my tracks and made me think:

"I have the right person. It is very easy for you to say "get over it". Isn't it? If you see someone who has been discriminated because of his/her race, do you also say to that person "GET OVER IT"? I hope not. Do you describe their condemnation of racism as a "hang up" like you just did with mine regarding homophobia? What an easy and convenient way to dismiss the subject. Don't you think so? Many people everyday do so, and you, Pauline are a classic example (aware or not)."

When I reflect on telling someone to 'get over it' or get over anything, it's a really insensitive thing to say. It's just like the author says it is, " a way to dismiss the subject," or a way to invalidate what the other person is feeling. I've learnt a lot from thinking about that.:)
