The first time that I visited Geneva I went ballistic and bought up a large quantity of wooden gear etc etc.
Rather than putting it all into plastic bags, they wrapped each item in newspaper and then placed everything into a large cardboard box, with bubble wrap etc inside and taped up outside.
I was very impressed - don't worry, they do it directly near the check-out and so I watched them pack the box.
I found it handy when we arrived home too, as everything was in the one box that needed to be declared and saved me from having to open all suitcases!
So I wouldn't worry about Geneva, they do a great service with packing and nothing was broken on the trip home.
But if you buy from market stalls, I would then take some bubble wrap with me and also some packing tape too, to secure any boxes etc.
Happy shopping!
Caroline
