Here a list of Ubud restaurants recently compiled.
Notes.
- I have personally experienced all these restaurants many times, some more often that others
- The price scale I use is, of course, in relation to Bali prices.
- I do not comment on restaurants in hotels. In general, they are good, but always relatively expensive (Villa Imogiri, Alila, Amandari, Ibah, Puri Kamandau, Pita Maha, Maya Ubud, etc...)
- Type of Food. Most of the foods serves in these restaurants are more or less mixtures and improvisations of several types of cuisine, Chinese, Indonesian, Balinese, French, Italian, you name it. I'll call it International, for a better word.

Apakabar. Jl Dewi Sita. Café style. Cheap.

Ary's Warung. Jl Raya Ubud. It started as a hole-in-the-wall warung (a nice place to finish the evening with good conversation and an arak), but no longer. It is now a trendy restaurant, unfortunately located on noisy Main Street. Fine Int'l food. Expensive.

Bali Pesto, Jl Monkey Forest. Good value for the money. Bali/Indo. Cheap.

Barandi, Jl Hanoman, Pengosekan. Guski's (of Batan Waru) brother,Guskok, recently opened this eatery. Nice atmosphere. Int'l. Moderate.

Batan Waru, Jl Dewi Sita. The jovial atmosphere prevailing 5 years ago is gone. The owner, Guski, seems to have lost interest, and his wife, Karen, who had been so instrumental to the success of this restaurant, is no longer present. Now, it's just a place to have a nice meal. Bali/Indo/Int'l. Moderate.

Bebek Bengil 1. Jl Hanoman, Padang Tegal. Since one year ago, when Mande, the original owner, having problem with some of his family/partner, gave up everything, the restaurant is now the pale shadow of its former self. The décor is still nice, with pleasant garden sittings, but the food has lost a lot in quality. Indonesian, Int'l. Moderate.

Casa Luna. Jl Raya Ubud. Over-rated restaurant, in fact too popular: in the evening, the place is like a zoo. The prices are too high in relation to the quality and quantity of the food. Excellent pastries. Moderate.

Café des Artistes. Jl Bisma. Relatively new. Good atmosphere and good food. Cheap.

Café Tegal. Jl Hanoman, Padang Tegal. Clean and the food, Chinese, is always prepared fresh. Cheap and Good.

Café Lotus. Jl Raya Ubud. This is an icon. It has had its ups and downs. Nice surroundings, and the food is on its 'ups' in the cycle. Int'l. Moderate.

Café Wayan. Monkey Forest Rd. A real institution in Ubud. Ibu Wayan still cooks a storm here, but it's food for delicate Western palates: too mild for my taste. Furthermore, the sizes of the portions have shrunk noticeably over the last few years. Excellent pastries. Balinese/Indo. Moderate.

Cili Café, Jl Monkey Forest, Nyuh Kuning, Ubud. Unpretentious café, with very good, well prepared food. Bali/Indo. Cheap.

Deli Cat. Jl Monkey Forest (Along the football field). One-year old eatery. The owners (Icelandic and Danish) practically always loaded (which can be annoying sometime), serve some interesting dishes. Very cheap.

Dewa Warung. Jl. Gotama (off Jl. Dewi Sita). Most dishes at Rp4,000 (That's FOUR thousand) and certainly all under Rp10,000. Balinese/Indo. Very cheap.

Diana. Jl Monkey Forest (Next to Lotus Lane). Modest warung with decent food at good prices and pleasant service. Bali/Indo. Very cheap.

Ibu Oka, Jl. Suweta (across Puri Saren, the Palace). This is the REAL thing. Authentic Balinese food: only babe guling (suckling pig) is served, with the trimmings on a pile of rice. The meat is less fat than the one served in Gianyar. To satisfy the Western appetites, add a few thousands Rps. more to the Balinese price, and you get extra babe guling. Very cheap.

Ibu Satri, Jl Monkey Forest (right across the small bale banjar in the first block) was also an Ubud institution in its old location. Unfortunately, Ibu lost her lease few years ago, and she moved her warung to her own house, few hundred meters away. In the present location, the warung is rather "hidden" from view (there is a sign above the entrance). The food is simple, tasty, and very cheap, and Ibu is so nice.

Indus. Jl Raya Sanggingan, Ubud. Sister establishment to Casa Luna. Nice panorama (during the day). Moderate.

Jazz Café. Jl. Sukma, Tebesaya, Ubud. As the name indicates, a nice place to hear music, jazz and other, practically every night. Food's OK. Moderate (you pay for the musicians).

Kokokan Restaurant. Pengosekan. Part of the Kokokan Hotel complex, next to the Agung Rai Museum. Now the only Thai restaurant in town. The food is well prepared and moderately priced.

Laka Leke. Jl Monkey Forest, Nyuh Kuning, Ubud. Sister establishment to Café Wayan. Same food, same remarks. Beautiful setting in the rice fields. Balinese/Indo. Moderate.

Lamak. Jl Monkey Forest. Beautifully decorated by Made Wijaya (Michael White), with probably the best bathrooms in the whole of Bali. Very nice Int'l cuisine. Expensive.

Lotus Lane. Jl Monkey Forest. Lost a lot over the last few years. Could use a new management. Still has excellent pizzas. Cheap.

Miro's Garden. Jl Raya Ubud. I confess, I haven't been there for a longtime. I remember it as a pleasant outdoor restaurant, with good food. Cheap? (most likely)

Mozaic, Jl Raya Sanggingan. Definitely the BEST restaurant in Bali. Chef ChrisSalans is a genius. Several friends, professional chefs in France and the USA, have told me this restaurant would be a 2-star, and maybe 3, in Paris or New York. Expensive (Its prices just went up again).

Murni's Warung. Jl Raya Ubud, Tjampuhan, Ubud. This restaurant is another Ubud institution, going way back in time. Still attractive with its food, location and prices. Balinese/Indo. Cheap.

Naughty Nuri's Warung. Jl Raya Sanggigan (across Neka Museum). This is the favorite hang-out for expats, and since Beggar's Bush has passed in the history books, the headquarters for the HHH. Bryan, from Boston, and Nuri, his Javanese wife, run this very friendly place. Indo food, plus great barb-Q. Every Thursday nigh, it's 'Tuna Night'! Don't miss it. Cheap.

Nomad's. Jl Raya Ubud. A great disappointment, as it used to be one of my favorites. Hopefully, Nomad can turn it around. Bali/Indo. Cheap

Puri Garden. Jl Monkey Forest (across from Café Wayan). Modest but pleasant restaurant. Balinese/Indo food. Very cheap.

Putra Bar, Jl Monkey Forest. Noisy with loud music, and the food...forget it. Cheap.

Ryoshi. Jl Raya Ubud. Since it moved across the street from its original location, it also slided down the hill. Japanese. Cheap.

Terazo. Jl Suweta. Sister establishment to Batan Waru. Good food. Bali/Indo/Int'l. Moderate.

Tutmak, Jl Dewi Sita (at the corner of the football field). Has moved from its original location. Very nice, spacious lay out on three levels. Very nice menu. Bali/Indo/Int'l. Cheap.

Warung Taman. Jl. Taman (Off Jl Raya Ubud). Chinese from Jakarta owned establishment. The best nasi goreng in Ubud. Excellent, freshly prepared food at all times.Chinese/Indo. Very cheap
