The author is making a film version of the book, I can't wait.
This is from his website.

It's been almost 33 years since Wiese's student film was invited to Cannes and 30 years since his first trip to Bali. "I've been working on my first novel since the day I left Bali in 1970 and it's finally finished. It's a re-examination of the life and times and values of the sixties and the idealism that lead two young men to dream about a utopian society.
The Bali movie is about the adventures of two young men, a mystic and a hedonist, who set out to remake their lives looking for magic in Bali and get in way over their heads. It's about the clash of Eastern and Western values and about integration."

Wiese has just finished the screenplay based on his book and hopes to soon get his film into production. He's been to Australia and met with the country's senior director of photographers, art directors and production designers. He also scouted locations for 5 weeks in Bali. ("It's changing so much that I had to really go deep into the countryside to find what life use to be like in Bali. If I don't make this film soon there will be no more 'old Bali.')
