I recently bought a book on Bali one night in the Cappuccino strip in Freo at one of the 2nd hand bookstore on my recent trip to Perth -it's called " " On the Edge of a Dream - Magic & Madness in Bali " by Michael Wiese.IT just jumped out at me & I felt totally
compelled to buy it.
Ok - maybe I am a tad biased that I am a huge lover of historical type of novels & the fact that I love Bali but this book was absolutely brilliant.I read it in just over 1 day - I simply could not put it down.I was reading it in the car with a torch on - it was THAT rivetting !
Some people may find it very disturbing -it IS a heavy book at times !! It paints very graphic pictures in your head as you read it.Do NOT read this if you are faint hearted,it is a very spiritual book. I would NOT recommended it for someone with a sensitive nature,BUT IF you feel you have a leaning towards the spiritual or cultural side of Bali then go for it.
Personally I have very graphic dreams in Bahasa when I am in Bali & I really feel something that is hard to put into words when I am certain parts of Bali,I think after reading this book I understand a little bit more about what I am feeling.I really understood what the characters in the book where talking about.It's all about a connection with the land,our past & ancestors- who we are & where we came from.If you are a book lover like myself - go for it,you will not regret it.
