Hmmm going through the same agony trying to decide the same thing myself to the point of driving Kuta Ken mad (which is my job anyway). He, in his wisdom (or attempt for sanity) has told me not to worry and to just accept that we'll likely have to pay for excess (have done so in the past). Bit resentful about that as I could spend that money on more goods. And paying excess for luggage is a bit of a sore point with me seeing how I don't take up weight with the allowed stroller, surfboards or golfbag & clubs!
I'm not so worried about them ripping as doubled they are as strong as some suitcases. In view of the Corby case I'm more concerned about security - more so that baggage handlers might help themselves than plant something. All the 'Fijian Samsonites' I have only zip one way so securing them is difficult.
Seeing how we will be bringing back lots of fabric goods I could quite easily use the stripeys for those goods and take a suitcase (ex lge weighs 4.5kg) for the fragile goods if I can figure out a way to secure them.
What are the "tie things" and where do you get them?
Let me know what you decide, when are you going?
I will be watching this thread with great interest!
