hi liz, i was up that way (almost next door to sunset villas at a place called Klub Kokos). it is a bit confusing regarding distance and time taken to drive and walk. where sunset villas are is the end of the road and vehicles can not go beyond that point, therefore you walk into town the opposite way to which you would drive. if you walked back the same way to which you get driven it would probably take you the best part of a day. back in january when we were there the so called road for transport was absolutely disgusting. it took about 30 minutes to drive the last 1/2 mile, hair raising stuff. we were only there for 2 nights and the 2nd night we decided to eat out in town had our receptionist negotiate the price for us and was told the cost would be 50,000rp for the return trip. when we got back the drive asked for 250,000rp so had quite a heated disagreement, he tried to explain that because the road was so bad the cost was so high.
the walk into the outskirts of town is quite pleasant, but honestly if i was you i would not in a million years try wheeling a todler in a stroller, dirt tracks and quite uneven paths with a few steps here and there, don't think the stroller would survive. hope this helps
