Here is a map of the mandira with block numbers. We stayed in Block 32 and the room number was 703. These bigger blocks are the two storey rooms. We stayed in there and it was a superior room then(Feb 19-26th, 2005).
This may give you an idea of what to ask for. Yes they are further back but unless you have something wrong with your legs they are not too far. I have arthritis and I am 50. I did find that I would have preferred those closer cos my feet would hurt in the evening. But it was ok, we walked so far that walking to the room wasn't too bad...
The superior rooms are actually bigger than the deluxe, so if they are turning them into deluxe it could mean that you may get a slightly bigger room than the others. The storey on top should not be a problem.
What was a problem for us was the construction in the tower area behind us. Find out and make sure that you request not to be near the construction. If you have probs you can ask to be changed. A couple we know did that and as soon as the rooms up the front became vacant they were in. We were too slow...
Take your own coffee, cos the Bali coffee is rank and they serve that at brekky. Otherwise we really enjoyed it, the location is great and Sammy & Susie's and Billy's are just near you on the beach.
Our rooms were always cleaned and towels changed. The Barong bar and the Parasol area to sip a cocktails and watch the sunset is heaven.
We went in Feb cost us $900 each ex perth. That is for 7 nights in a superior room. I have a few pics here;
