And it also depends on what you want from your trip.
If you just want a driver with poor English (no registered and non licensed to carry tourists), then the price will be lower than if you want a driver + registered guide that speaks excellent English in a licensed to carry tourists car / van / bus, where the registered guide is able to point things out to you as you are travelling along, keeping "you" the client happy and informed - then you will pay a bit more. I always work on the theory - if you pay peanuts, all you get are monkeys.

The other thing is do you want the guide to look after things like temple fees / sarong / sash hire, entry fees and if you attend say a dance performance he/she could look after that aspect of your trip, then it is always better to use a reputable tour company.
