but I consider it a little bit strange that people who would never in a million years even think of driving without a license in Australia hire a motor bike in Bali without the proper international license that you ARE officially supposed to have.I get the impression that many people who have never ridden a motor bike in Australia let alone got an Aussie licence think it will all be fine to do what they like in Bali.
We wouldn't break the law by riding a motor bike without the proper licence in Australia & NOT expect to have the book thrown at us so why do people think it's OK to do it it Bali ? We don't even let our kids ride a push bike without a helmet so why do it on a motor bike in Bali ?
I DO realise that corruption happens re polisi in Bali BUT technically IF you do not have a helmet on or not have a license it could be argued that they are just doing their job.The thing is that instead of going through official channels they just pocket the " fine "
Maybe we'd be considered goodie 2 shoes because my husband has ridden a motor bike for over 20 years, has a Aussie licence & always makes sure his International licence is up to date before we go to Bali.It only costs about $15 for a year International licence from your auto association. One of our trips this past year was planned in less than a week & his international licence was expired & he didn't have time to renew it.We just didn't hire a motor bike that trip !BUT as I said maybe we are a bit nave or a goodie 2 shoes for being like this !
