A couple of us went snorkelling at Candi Dasa a couple of years ago. It wasn't really good for just walking into the sea, so we went with one of the fishermen in his boat. We went at least a mile out, we jumped off the boat (not easy on those traditional fishing boats and wearing a bikini!) and found ourselves in very deep water with very strong currents. The guy just sat in his boat not really paying attention to us at all. As we were there we felt obliged to snorkel, but it wasn't easy, although we did see plenty of fish. We managed to hold on to an old anchor rope we found so that we didn't get swept too far from the boat. Both of us are good swimmers, but that was frightening. Maybe not as frightening as the sight of us scrambling back into the boat in our bikinis tho!
