Just to let you know, all the chalets and suites at the Padma have now been renovated inside as part of their total hotel makeover (the standard rooms you referred to were done in 2003/2004.
The only remaining work now is the outside work on all the chalets, which provides all the downstairs Garden Deluxe Chalets with private walled gardens. I also beleive the Spa is about to get a total re-do soon as well.
I agree with you that the place was looking tired 14 months ago, but it is now anything but.
