Well we (4a and3 kids) just returned last Sun from 9 nights in glorious Bali. Arrived in Denpasser with 4l cask and 3 bottles. Were asked for $20 au in tax (nudge, nudge) and paid willingly.
Stayed at Club Bali suites in the Jayakarta. Reasonable and comfortable. Nice pools, not too far really and in easy walk to Padma and Legian for restaurants and shopping. Only problem was the roll out bed was rather poor condition.
Got bathers made at climax ($55) and hubby had 6 pr pants made at Aristos ($120) Went to Jimbaran Bay, lovely and the seafood! Cost 100 for food and drinks for family of 5. Another restaurant we loved was Gado Gado, very 5 star on the beach. Best resto I've been to nearly ever!! Around the same cost as Jimbaran but much more opulent.
Went to Drops in Padma St - looks great but service is less than poor. Kids could swim while we ate tho and that was nice.
Spent over 1/2 day at Waterborn Park. Food cheap at 25 - 40,000 per
meal package incl drink and ice cream. Waterslides are fabulous but my favourite was relax river! Not many tourists tho so no need for racing to get a cabana and in fact we were happy with pool side chairs and a locker. Shopped at Galleria (opposite) afterwards and were very happy with the sale prices and quality. (ie: Osk Kosh long T-shirt at $11au)
Travelled north to Tejakula. Stopped at monkeys and Ubud on the way. Monkeys here are alot less aggressive than elsewhere but would still advise not to take food with you. Shopping in Ubud cheaper than previously but no less intense in selling regime!
Volcanos of Kintamani and (I forget the other one are very picturesque. Mountain villages are different in many ways and well worth a look. We were fortunate to be there for Nyepi Day and got to
see alot of the preparations : including Ogah Ogahs being made, offerings to the gods being erected, temples being cleaned and decorated , pigs being slaughtered and cock fights which are legal on these days. Facinating.
More about Tejakula and a great cheap hotel calles New Arena (kuta)in followup.
