Any phone locked to any network (Telstra, Optus, Voda etc) won't work unless there is any agreement between the network operator in the country you are going to (Indonesia in this case) and your network operator back home. Usually the cost is prohibitive to use your 'Asutralian' network access whilst overseas anyway, especially in countries like Indonesia. Best bet is to either (A) get your phone unlocked before you go or (B) buy/borrow a phone from Australia and then get a SIM card over there either way. Make sure it is a GSM phone not a CDMA phone.(only Telstra provides this service so far)CDMA phones don't have a SIM card and they won't work in Bali because CDMA doesn't exist there......yet.
