Hi, have had meals at a few places in Ubud - all great. Can recommend lots of places.
We have also stayed at Hotel Tjumpuhan 3 times - very nice.
It is $$$ yet we love it - we wanted to stay at the HMGH ourselves at some stage. Have done the cooking class at the guesthouse - was very good - would recommend it. And I'm with you - chatting to the locals is a must, you can drink and hav a talk to people back home anytime. We have had a look at Pita Maha $$$$, yet will stay there some time. Our next trip we are basing ourselves in Legian, yet will be going up to Ubud a couple of times. There is another place we have eaten at a couple of times, and they have accomm - Cahaya Dewata - you can have a look - www.cahayadewatahotel.com

The view eating your lunch (or if your staying .. from your balcony) is fantastic - looking out across the Ayung River valley.

This could be a good place to base yourself ... then look around the island from there. Our last trip (Dec / Jan) was 3 weeks (lucky, as we all got a bit sick, not the usual BB, there was a bad bug going around, even the locals were getting it). We are heading back again in April. We have a fun-do-see list which could give you some ideas of things to do. If you would like a copy, just drop us an e-mail. Regards, Louise & Geoff
