Just over a year ago we were on a flight from seattle to san fransisco. I had a 4 month old baby on my lap, as you dont have to pay for little babies and on 'domestic' US flights, they dont do the bulkhead crib thing.

The lady behind me and her partner fully reclined their chairs at all times, including meal times to the point where my babys head was constantly touching their chair. I am also 5"10 and husband 5"11 so our legs took up a lot of space. There was no way I could get my tray down. When I politely asked her to move her chair up so we could put our tray down she said we "should have booked a seat for the kid" Hrmm..like babies that age can even sit up on their own! The flight attendant even noticed and said something to which they kicked up a big stink about how they should be able to recline their chairs. When the attendant looked helplessly at me, I just told her not to bother, it was a short flight and we would get away from jerks with no common courtesy very soon. I know I should bite my tongue but...I definately found their seat reclining rude.

I dont see a problem with seat reclining on long flights (anthing more than an hour or two) where sleep is necessary but I think it just depends on the people and situations around you. I know I hardly ever recline my seat at all and will never EVER recline it if the person behind me is tall or has a baby in their lap!

Cheers,
karina
